The Big Makeover Sunday, 19 July 2009 00:00 Melissa and Danny Johnson were sort of like house stalkers. On their hunt for a historic property, they drove past an empty Tobin Hill home for more than a year, hoping to locate the owner – who couldn't be reached by phone – and make him an offer. Something kept drawing them there. Never mind it's dilapidated appearance, sagging porch and the fact that they could hardly see the house through overgrown foliage. They wanted it.
Urban Infill Projects Friday, 05 December 2008 21:11 Urban Infill Projects Filling In The Gaps In S.A.'s Core San Antonio has a vast selection of vintage houses in neighborhoods such as Monte Vista, Lavaca, Tobin Hill and Mahncke Park, presenting ample remodeling opportunities. But some homes are in serious disrepair and some lots are vacant, making these center city areas prime for urban infill development, where new projects are built within existing neighborhoods.
Vintage Appeal Friday, 08 August 2008 21:11 Ivy Taylor told a friend her family was moving after nine years in the North Central neighborhood of Northwoods to the inner-city neighborhood of Dignowity Hill Historic District. “You’re kidding, right?” was the response.
Midtown: Defined by lifestyle Sunday, 28 June 2009 20:55 Depending on who you ask, Midtown might be a narrow strip of property along Broadway. Or it might be a few neighborhoods just north of downtown. Or it might be everything within Loop 410. Whatever the case, Midtown has plenty of housing options, has attracted a diverse population and continues to redevelop as people look for convenience and a more urban lifestyle.
The Strip's revitalization Saturday, 13 June 2009 19:27 What started as rather random assortment of gay clubs quickly is becoming a bona fide gay business district that some business owners and nearby residents are saying is helping to clean up the area and to improve the image of the gay community in the city.
