Viva Fiesta Neighbors!

Tobin Hill Community Association has several exciting events coming up in the next month, including our first ever Fiesta after-party event! 

Our free neighborhood-wide Fiesta event, Tobin de Mayo, is May 4th from 10:00am-4:00pm.

430 and 434 E Magnolia Update

The Office of Historic Preservation filed a request for Landmark Designation for these homes. The cases will be heard by the City’s Historic Design Review Commission on May 1 at 1901 S. Alamo. You can send a statement of support for the designation to jessica.anderson@sanantonio.gov – Those wishing to comment at the hearing may sign up to speak between 2:30 and when the cases are heard, which will be no earlier than 5:00pm.
The City of San Antonio Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on May 8th, where public testimony will be considered, and where the Planning Commission will consider whether to recommend that the City Council adopt the draft SA Tomorrow Midtown Regional Center Plan as a component of the City’s SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan. The meeting will begin at 2:00 PM, on May 8, 2019 in the Board Room of the Cliff Morton Development Business Services Center, 1901 South Alamo Street. 

Following the May 8th Planning Commission Hearing, a public hearing will be scheduled for the full City Council to consider adopting the Midtown Plan, tentatively scheduled for June 6, 2019.

The draft Midtown Area Regional Center Plan is available to review at https://midtown.sacompplan.com, and is available to review on site at the following libraries: Landa, Central, San Pedro.

The Planning Department welcomes your comments on the plan. You may submit comments using the comment functions within the plan webpage, email garrett.phillips@sanantonio.gov, call 210.207.5441, or testify at the May 8th hearing. The May 8th hearing agenda will be posted at https://sanantonio.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx prior to the meeting.

The demolition applications for 307 & 311 E Evergreen are currently on hold while they are under review for historic significance. The cases were reviewed at HDRC on April and were recommended for Landmark Designation. The next steps will be a hearing with the Zoning Commission and with City Council.

The demolition applications for 430 & 434 E Magnolia are also on hold while they are under review for historic significance. The Office of Historic Preservation filed for Landmark Designation in response to community opposition to the demolitions. These cases will be review by the HDRC on May 1 at 5:00pm.

The Neighborhood and Housing Services Department offers several home repair and energy efficiency programs for income-qualified homeowners. Applications are being accepted for the following programs:

  • Under 1 Roof
  • Let’s Paint
  • Minor Repair Programs
  • Green and Healthy Homes

Committee Meetings:

THCA’s  Zoning and Development Committee meets bi-weekly (as needed) to review upcoming planning and zoning cases in the neighborhood. The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 14th at 6:30PM. Please contact Zoning and Development Chairperson, Rick Schell, to confirm the location of the meeting.

THCA’s Historic Preservation Committee meets monthly to discuss cases scheduled to go before the City’s Historic Design Review Commission. The next meeting will be Monday, May 27th, at 6:30PM. Please contact Committee Chair, Ricki Kushner, for meeting location details.
